For those not experts at blogging, like me, you can click on the pictures and a larger version will appear, or at least on my Mac laptop?! Some of the pictures have detail that can be seen better in the larger version,

Week 16- First PREM wall pour, another at the Treatment Bldg

Last week seemed slow while we prepped for concrete in both buildings, this week the work came to fruition and we had pours Monday and Tuesday!

Here's a wide shot of the whole site on Monday while the Treatment Building was getting its 2nd to last pour-

Here you can see the interior wall forms behind rebar in the Treatment Building, then the concrete wall as the forms are stripped, then the forms going up for the final, exterior wall-

This is a shot of the northwest corner just prior to the pour. The blue pipe carries a hose which is filling completed tanks for leak tests-

Here's the PREM building with upper-level handrails- a catwalk 24 feet above the slab!-

And the pour is underway!- I climbed part way into the hole for some interesting pictures-

They poured an extra lift on the northern part of the floor and the 2nd shot shows the next stage of forms already on the new floor above the slab-

Two shots of the PREM building with interior forms partially stripped from the new south half wall-

And a hilltop view of the Treatment Building with 7 of 10 tanks completely enclosed-

Week 15- fog, form building and beyond the tracks-

Note on Week 14- Part 2 ended up below Part 1. Just use the Blog Archive on the right side to click through any weeks you haven't seen yet!

Week 15 was a day short because of Labor Day weekend. This is one of the rare weeks in which we did not pour concrete lately. The PREM building concrete forms are labor-intensive so the south half pour rolled into next week. Both the south half of the PREM building and an interior wall in the Treatment building will have concrete poured on Monday.

Otherwise our week began in the fog-

The PREM form building continued, here's a few shots which show how the 3rd level of plywood forms came together this week, and you can see we ended up with better weather late in the week!-

Owens Construction, the excavation subcontractor, has been busy at the Wetland Discharge Site. This is where the treated water (effluent) exits the system. The effluent is pumped about 3,500 feet to the southwest (as the crow flies) from the treatment plant into a gravel bed. There it will percolates back into ground water and Plummer Creek. In the 2nd picture the trench where gravel and perforated pipe will be placed is on the left and the access road for construction vehicles is on the right-

To wrap up, here is a view of the PREM building from the northwest. This unfinished north half will begin form work next week after the south half pour is complete-

Week 14, Part 1- Rebar wrap-up, another pour ahead...

In the early part of Week 14 the rebar crew, Rodbusters, wrapped up their work on site for now. They've been done with the Treatment building for a while and needed to complete work on the north half of the PREM building-

In the meantime we were ready to begin leak testing the tanks in the Treatment building. Here's a water hose being helped up to one of the north wall tanks with some lengths of pipe!-

On the south side of the Treatment building the outer wall is being formed up. The first shot shows cam locks in the plywood- these hold the horizontal 2x4's that you see in the 2nd picture-

Form building on the south half of the PREM building continued- the first two 8 foot levels of plywood were installed and supporting 2x4's were attached (horizontal "walers" and vertical "strongbacks")-

Week 14, Part 2- PREM rebar and concrete pour-

The PREM (Phosphorous Removal) building will be mostly hidden from view by the end of October. Even though the walls are 24 feet tall right now- inside the hole- only about 8 feet will be seen above ground when it's all finished.

To appreciate the size and strength of this structure, here are a few pictures that show the buttress rebar (total of 6 locations) before and after the concrete forms are built. Then the couplers that lock the buttresses and corners into the concrete foundation-

An early morning shot of work on the PREM forms-

The south wall of the Treatment building is poured-

...while Dennis tries to look innocent vibrating the concrete-

The south wall of Treatment building as the forms are stripped-

A quick look at some of the completed interior tanks-

And over at the PREM, work continues...

Major update!

Threw out 4-5 updates at once, sorry for the overload! Now I'm almost at the current stage of work.

Use the Blog Archive to the right side of the page to find links for Weeks 10, 11, 12 and the two-part Week 13.

Now we'll see if I can post one per week and stay on track!

Week 13 Part 2- Treatment Bldg rebar and PREM progress

After mentioning the carpenters of CNI we should mention the Rodbusters crew putting in all the rebar- Tony, Slider, Shaggy and Jeremy. During the 4th wall pour in the north-central part of the Treatment building, Rodbusters installed rebar curtains to form the south wall-

Here are some good views of the "Flying W" rigging for rebar curtains-

So, here's a little tribute to all the rebar in our Treatment building- a quick estimate came up with over 100,000 lbs in the walls and 70,000 lbs in the slab! When you have that much rebar you're building your own prison to work in!

Here's Shaggy & Jeremy on the south wall while supplies are lifted in behind them-

And finally a look at the stages of progress on the south PREM wall-
